Boating Holidays Reviews

These are typical of the comments we receive from our Boating Holidays customers. We hope you find them of interest.

Canal du Midi in June 2013 – “A really good time”
We had a really good time, assisted by fine weather. We cruised from the base at Argens to Carcassonne and back, locks all the way but no real problems in managing. Other clients of yours who fish may like to know I can confirm there are some very large carp in the Canal du Midi.

Carmargue in August 2012 – “Fantastic time”
I would like to say that we had a fantastic time on the holiday. I can speak for all of us and say that we found the boats extremely well appointed and very comfortable. The cruising was excellent and the help at the pick up office was brilliant, as was the help at the drop off. I can't think of anything we didn't like. We all want to cruise the canals again and would come back to you guys for your excellent service.
MC – Port Cassafieres to Beaucaire in Southern France

Ireland in July 2013– “A really good time”
We had a great time, helped of course by wonderful weather - absolutely excellent all round! We went north from Ballinamore up to Enniskillen. The locks were easy to use and the lakes very peaceful and uncrowded. All the stop overs were clean and easy to find mooring. Everyone was friendly and helpful so overall a lovely holiday.

Canal du Midi in July 2012 – “Fabulous time”
We had an absolutely fabulous time, loved every minute of it! We are looking to return next year, with more family and a bigger boat - great holiday! Thank you!
SH – Negra and back in Southern France

Aquitaine in July 2012 – “Perfect vacation for family with young children”
We really enjoyed the experience, being allocated a new boat only made it better. Perfect vacation for family with young children as we had all required facilities and space with us while moving through beautiful scenery and visiting lovely villages. Definitely something we recommend to others and will do again ourselves. Although we had a fairly large boat with only my wife and me we were able to move through locks very easily, experience and help from staff was always positive
MK - Le Mas d’Agenais to Montauban in South West France

Aquitaine in September 2012 – “A wonderful week”
We had a wonderful week on the boat in Aquitaine - everyone was really friendly and helpful and I can definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of a boating holiday - it's our second time with them (the last time was in The Netherlands) and we would definitely book with them again. Thank you to all the lovely people we met as we meandered through villages and towns along the canal.
JB – Les Mas d’Agenais and back in South West France

Canal du Midi in October 2012 – “Our confidence grew”
On check-in the office suggested we travel towards Toulouse instead of Carcassonne which gave us a less crowded journey with fewer boats travelling in the same direction. We appreciated the advice, as being first time travellers (a couple in our 60's), we were apprehensive about traversing the locks and would have worried had we held up the "traffic". We soon discovered that our misgivings amounted to little as our confidence grew!
JO – Castlenaudary and back in Southern France

Burgundy West in August 2012 – “Cheerful and helpful”
We travelled from Tannay to Decize on the Nivernais canal. We were very fortunate with the weather and enjoyed very good fishing (catch & release of course). The lock keepers were largely cheerful and helpful and the few people we saw (mainly on bikes riding alongside the canal) were friendly. A really pleasant experience and a relaxing holiday despite negotiating through 72 locks!
PY – Tannay to Decize in Central France

Lot in August 2012 – “All went superbly”
Just a note to thank you for the arrangements with our recent holiday – commencing at Douelle for 7 days hire. It all went superbly – the boat was all as promised and even the weather did its bit to make for a great family holiday for nine of us, 5 adults and 4 youngsters. The service offered by your team at Douelle was first class
FQ – Douelle and back in South West France

Italy in August 2012 – “Would love to do it again”
Fantastic holiday, great to have the moorings available at various stages of our route - couldn't have been better. We were a party of 10 and would love to do it again as a group or as individual families.
MK – Casale Sul Sile and back in Italy

Camargue in May 2012 – “Really enjoyed our holiday”
Really enjoyed our holiday from Lattes to Argens. We half followed the recommended stops, half followed our noses and stopped when we found a nice stop-over. The boat was great, the staff were friendly and informative, the whole trip very relaxing and fun.
RN – Lattes to Argens in Southern France

Charante in September 2012 – “So beautiful”
The Charante was so beautiful. The locks challenging but fun. Probably a larger boat would have been better but we were conservative in the size of boat we had as we were novices to boating. The boat was a good size for two
WP – Jarnac and back in South West France

Belgium in October 2012 – “Perfect for us”
The holiday was perfect for us - despite the weather. The site crew were exceptionally helpful.
JW – Nieuwpoort and back in Belgium

Italy in July 2012 – “Will do it again”
We stayed at Casier for the first night, then Mazzorba, next to Burano, stopped at St Erasmo for groceries, very good place to stock up on water as well. Then we stayed at Vignole for the night, found it a bit hard to find the base, but finally did. 2 nights at Chioggia, would definitely recommend that as a stop for anyone boating the Venice Islands. We were going to stay at Malamocco for a night, but got ripped off in a Trattoria, so decided to move on to St Erasmo, very friendly people and helpful. Last night at Porto Casale sul Sile before sailing back to the base. Wonderful holiday, extremely well organised especially by your group, not one hitch. Will do it again and recommend you to our friends. With thanks.
WH – Casale and back in Italy

Brittany in May 2011 – “Scenery was exceptional”
We loved the tranquillity of the Brittany canals. The scenery was exceptional with exciting towns and villages en route. The staff at the Redon base were very friendly and helpful and English speaking which helps a lot when taking instructions!
DM – Redon and back in Western France

Ireland in September 2011 – “Teach you very quickly”
Route south from Ballinamore. Pleasant route with places to stop off and eat etc. Locks were no problem - in fact they teach you very quickly to handle the boat and moor.
JR – Ballinamore and back in Ireland

Aquitaine in October 2011 – “Planning out next trip”
We were upgraded to a boat with a flying bridge for which we are grateful, it made everything much easier with only 2 of us on board. We are planning our next trip and would certainly book a boat like this.
GA – Valence sur Baise to Agen in South West France

Anjou in September 2011 – “Wonderful medieval villages”
The Sarthe and Mayenne are so pretty as are the wonderful medieval villages with their ancient churches. Very few restaurants were open during our visit which was disappointing. The Lion d'Or at La Suze and the recommended Chenille restaurants were excellent. Our boat was superb in all respects except its inability to be steered at low speeds!
EF – Chenille Change to La Suze in Western France

Holland in August 2011 – “Plenty of choice”
There was plenty of choice for routes to take. We only had 5 nights, but you could go further than we did if you stayed longer. I was very impressed by your helpful and friendly staff
KW – Wousend and back in Holland

Burgundy West in August 2011 – “Great time”
From Joigny we headed down the Canal du Nivernais to Auxerre and then headed a little way down the Canal de Bourgogne on the way back. We had a great time, and next time I think we'd try to stretch for a 2 week trip.
HT – Joigny and back in Central France

Canal du Midi in April 2011 – “Great time”
Had a great time from Homps to Trebes - and we were extremely lucky with the weather!
NK – Homps and back in Southern France

Canal du Midi in September 2011 – “Excellent advice”
We did a return trip from Narbonne to Trebes. We wanted to go to Carcassonne and were advised by the lady at the base to stop at Trebes and get a taxi into Carcassonne. This proved to be excellent advice and we were very grateful. We had an excellent holiday and even when the fan belt went on the boat the responce from the base was very quick and they were with us within 1/2 hour so we were hardly held up at all. Overall we were very impressed with the service, boat etc and would certainly use them again
CB – Narbonne and back in Southern France

Ireland in October 2011 – “Very successful holiday”
A very successful holiday, with two American friends who flew in to Shannon. Brilliant pubs along the way, very friendly locals, rubbish weather (it was Ireland!) and great service at the base.
JB – Ballinamore and back in Ireland

Charante in July 2010 – “A lovely week”
We had a great time on the River Charente. Going down stream via Cognac to just outside Saintes before going upstream to a few miles outside of Angoulleme. A lovely week.
CL – Jarnac and back in South West France

Ireland in June 2010 – “Excellent weather”
The excellent weather made the holiday so we were able to cruise as far as Killaloe and we taxied into Limerick. Another good route was up the River Suck to Ballinasloe from where we had a day trip by train to Galway city.
DH – Portumna and back in Ireland

Camargue in August 2010 – “Enjoyed the trip”
We travelled from St Gilles as far as Vias before turning around. There were a number of very nice towns en route, particularly, Aiges Morte and the towns on the Etang - there were also areas of natural beauty with mosquitoes big enough to lift you out the boat and carry you away! Overall we enjoyed the trip - it was certainly different from our previous experiences on the Midi, Loch Ness and Loch Derg.
AW – St Gilles and back in Southern France

Canal du Midi in October – “very good time of year”
Travelled on the Canal Du Midi from Castelnaudaray to Trebes in October 2008 and found this to be a very good time of year as the weather was OK (mostly fine with some overnight rain) and the canal was not too busy. Bram was our first overnight and it was a lovely little village. Next overnight was Carcassonne - a much larger place with lots to see and good mooring facilities (showers and washing machines). Last night at Trebes where facilities are limited but still a village worth visiting.
KG – Castelnaudary to Trebes in Southern France

Migennes, Burgundy – “one of France’s best kept secrets”
“We cruised South on the Yonne and Canal du Nivernais. The combination of river and canal was idyllic. Considering that we were there at a peak holiday time the waterways were very quiet and the locks uncongested. All the lock keepers were very helpful and friendly. Very easy to get to from the UK. The East Burgundy region is very scenic and varied. For my group it was one of Frances best kept secrets and a region we plan on returning to in the future.”
BT – Migennes out and back in Central France

Wonderful Camargue
We thought the Camargue was wonderful, definitely will be going again ASAP. Can't wait to do it again.
HW - St Gilles out and back in Southern France

Spectacular trip from Le Mas D’Agenais to Agen
Trip from Le Mas D'Agenais to Agen was spectacular.  The flight of locks to the canal across the Garronne superb.  We then returned to Le Mas and cruised up to Fontet where we visited the Matchstick Museum.  These are excellent. The viewpoint at Malehan was worth the climb.  Altogether a really lovely holiday
GH - Le Mas d’Agenais to Condom in South West France

Perfect Irish route
Perfect service after a simple call. Friendly personnel. We started in Portumna, went to Athlone, then back to Killaloe, and return to Portumna. We found this route perfect.
LC - Portumna out and back in Ireland

A lovely route through Ireland without too many locks
We travelled north from Ballinamore to Enniskillen. This was a lovely route without too many locks. Overall, an excellent experience and we thoroughly enjoyed the Penichette, a very comfortable, well designed and well equipped boat. Your staff provided a friendly, helpful service whenever we phoned.  We also liked the virtual tour of the boats on the website.  The Navigation Guide was excellent and absolutely worth the money, and the Captain's Handbook was most informative and amusing as well.
JN – Ballinamore out and back in Ireland

Enjoying Italy
I will certainly look to you again for cruiser hire. Thank you for a most enjoyable holiday.
TW - Casier to Porto Levante in Italy

October in the Scottish Highlands
Absolutely fabulous, we all enjoyed it very much. The scenery on our journey was awesome, the weather held up very well for us, I mean October in the Highlands!! we expected the worst but were very pleasantly surprised. All in all a first rate holiday which we all enjoyed immensely.
JG – Inverness out and back on the Caledonian Canal, Scotland

Excellent Boat facilities
“Joigny to Chatel Censoir & back. Boat, its facilities, inventory, general condition & cleanliness were better than we had expected, really excellent.”
FB – Joigny out and back in Central France

Website – easy to use
Impressed with the web site - ease of use and the variety of different routes with relevant photographs.  Also liked the facility to view the interior of the boats.  It helped us make our decisions on where to go easier - and the holiday lived up to expectations. Staff on the telephone in England very helpful.
DA - Chatillon sur Loire to Decize in Central France

Where to next?
From Banagher to Devenish Island on Lower Loch Erne, then back to edge of Loch Derg, returning to Banagher. Best part was the Ballinamore and Ballyconnell Canal.  Guess we are canal boaters at heart. Done the Shannon. France next.
JS – Banagher out and back in Ireland
