Germany Boating Holidays

One of Europe’s most beautiful regions, the waterways of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg form a network of lakes and canals in an area of forests and farmland.

Boat Hire in Germany

North of Berlin, and extending to the Baltic Sea, this region possesses historic palaces, castles and ancient towns, and is countryside worth exploring. The exceptional flora and fauna and undisturbed wildlife make it a paradise for naturalists.

The lakes offer a wide range of water sports, especially the Muritz lake, Germany's largest.

The fishing is excellent with fish including eel, pike, carp, zander.

Cruise Mecklenburg and Brandenburg

The historic towns of Potsdam and Brandenburg and the castles of Rheinsberg and Schwerin are all worth a visit. Whilst in this part of eastern Germany, you cannot miss the charm of Berlin, with its history, buildings, and 100 kilometres of canals with more bridges than Venice.

If these activities are not enough for you, then why not sample those wonderful German beers and visit the superb restaurants specialising in fish dishes.

We have five boat bases in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg. These offer a choice of routes. To cruise on inland waterways, on a boat, up to 15 meters in Berlin/Potsdam, an international license for motorboats (or pleasure boats) is required. Also required is an official certificate of competence for inland waterways issued by your country of residence or a certificate of competence for inland waterways issued by a water sports association of your country of residence. If you do not have a license you can only cruise from Marina Wolfsbruch and Jabel.

There you will be given a three hour instruction (Charterschein) which starts in the afternoon. Each person who wants to steer the boat has to join the course and will need to bring their passport and driver license for a car.

If you wish to cruise Germany you can also look at boating holiday routes in the Alsace region of France. These offer cross-border cruises from France into Luxembourg and the Moselle area of Germany.

A boating licence is required if you would like to navigate the waters around Berlin and Potsdam. A pilot can be hired who will guide you from Potsdam to Liebenwalde or vice versa, from there you can navigate on your own to Marina Wolfsbruch. You can also use a pilot to navigate the waterways around the Spreewald.
